Served as an IT Support Specialist in the Dental School at Case Western Reserve University.

Responsible for:

  • Deployment of Dell PCs running Windows XP.
  • Deployment of HP Tablet PCs running Windows XP Tablet Edition.
  • Assisting staff and faculty with virus removal, software and hardware installation, and general computer questions. This was done both on the phone, though email, and in person.
  • Data backup, both on servers and on client PCs.
  • Modification of Microsoft Active Directory user accounts.
  • Creation and modification of Group Policy Objects for Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Creation and modification of OUs for Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Deployment and maintenance of Windows file servers, running Windows Server 2003.
  • These servers were either RAID1 or RAID5.
  • Deployment of MSIs through Active Directory.
  • Deployment and maintenance of Ubuntu Linux servers, including the Dental School web server running Apache2 and a server running mission-critical PC support applications.
  • Migration of a Request Tracker ticket system and a MediaWiki knowledge base from aging, commodity hardware, to new, server-grade hardware. Also upgraded both software packages. This saved Case Western at least $2000 in support fees.
  • Deployment of the Print Director print auditing system.

This was both a HIPPA-regulated and medical environment.

Assisted a Professional Engineer in the Combustion Branch at NASA Glenn Research Center in Brook Park, Ohio with the automation of CFD applications by writing and documenting complex macros. Primary author on a Technical Report for NASA Glenn Research Center detailing a software framework I helped develop that adds an optimization capability into the National Combustion Code. NASA extended my original internship and invited me back over winter to continue my work.
